Common Questions

What is the structure of the weekend?

For more detail, click “Read More” under “Retreat Content; etc.” In brief: arrival is on 3:00-6:30 pm Friday to check in and relax. We will begin in the evening with dinner together (provided by Katherine and Jon) for us to learn about you and your elder-care situation, introduce the weekend further, and hear your desires for the weekend. We will have 3 blocks of time in the morning and evening on Saturday for content-related meetings, discussion, and sharing. There will be a final “wrap-up” session Sunday morning with pastries and beverages before you depart.  Saturday lunch and dinner are on your own, and we will provide you with local options for dining or food shopping as well as other attractions of the area.  Please let us know if you have any food allergies or preferences so we can prepare for you!

Can our children and/or pets accompany us?

We love both children and animals but cannot accommodate them on the retreat. The weekend is geared towards providing you with support but also as a time for you to retreat and relax.

What are the accommodations like and what should we bring?

Bring comfortable clothes for relaxing in as well as walking around exploring the area during free time. You are welcome to bring any food items for simple meals and snacks as you will have a small refrigerator, toaster oven, hot-plate, pour-over coffee carafe and filters, and dishes/utensils in the kitchenette. We will supply you with coffee and tea, half and half, and butter, salt and pepper.  Your apartment is attached to the house but is independent with its own entrance. There is a raised queen size bed one step up from a beautiful living/dining area. You will have your own full bathroom with shower, and linens, blankets, and towels are provided.

What else shall we bring?

Consider bringing a journal, notebooks, or electronic devices (we have wifi as well as cell phone connection through wifi) for gathering your own thoughts, questions and information shared/learned throughout the weekend.

Will we have time to relax and what is the area like?

The land around us is filled with rural beauty along with the possibility for diverse excursions: a tour of Old Deerfield, short hikes with wonderful overlooks, or a walk and shopping in charming Shelburne Falls can all be accomplished in the Saturday afternoon time programmed for your personal enjoyment.

Is the lodging unit accessible to those with mobility restrictions?

We are sorry not to be able to provide wheelchair access. There are two steps up to the apartment which is on one floor. The bed is on a platform with a stepping stool if needed.
